Theme auction of surrealist art

The year 2009 marks the centenary of the birth of Danish surrealist artists Wilhelm Freddie (1909-1995) and Vilhelm Bjerke Petersen (1909-1957). The theme auction coincides with a number of current events that focus on Surrealism in Danish and international art. The ARKEN Museum of Modern Art currently hosts an exhibition entitled ‘Triumph of Desire’ that highlights Danish and international Surrealism, and the Danish National Gallery and Nordjyllands Kunstmuseum both feature exhibitions in 2009 that pay tribute to Wilhelm Freddie.

For the theme auction Bruun Rasmussen therefore seeks the consignment of accomplished works by artists such as Wilhelm Freddie, Vilhelm Bjerke Petersen, Erik Ortvad, Rita Kernn-Larsen, Elsa Thoresen, Harry Carlsson, Hans Øllgaard, Ejler Bille, Richard Mortensen and the Halmstad Group.
