In the just over 50 years that Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneers of Fine Art has been active, the art market has undergone a radical change from domination by a small group of collectors to the situation today where it is the property of almost everybody. Collectors in the old-fashioned sense of the word, interested only in a specific subject but who also had an incredibly broad knowledge of their chosen field, have become rarer and rarer.
Gradually art and culture have become part of our everyday life and not just something we encounter on visits to museums and galleries. Today interest tends towards a lifestyle approach, interior design and decoration, fashion and trends, often with an exciting mixture of the old and the new, the expensive and the inexpensive – all uniting to create a particular environment. As one of Denmark’s most important mediatory institutions in the field of culture Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneers of Fine Art views providing broader information on what is happening within these genres as an important part of its mission. Moreover, we believe it is important to communicate the visions, values and attitudes which underlie commercial sales, as we are convinced that such is the duty of a professional auction house. For this reason, ones a year we publish our magazine AuktionsLiv (Auction Living), which deals with lifestyle, art and culture. The name of the magazine reflects our ambition to give broad coverage to auction life, thus contributing to setting the agenda for the Scandinavian auction market. We sincerely hope that this magazine can inspire even more people to participate in the world of experience and enjoyment which auction life at Bruun Rasmussen can offer throughout the land.
